Indian women's cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has returned to social media for the first time since her wedding was postponed. She was set to marry musician Palash Muchhal on November 23, but just before the ceremony, Smriti's father, Shrinivas Mandhana, suddenly fell ill and had to be hospitalised in Sangli. The following day, Palash also had to be hospitalised after his condition worsened. Although both have now been discharged from the hospital, families have not yet announced the new wedding date.

Smriti Mandhana dropped a new video on Instagram on December 5. It was part of a toothpaste brand promo. In the video, she shared her memories of lifted India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup trophy. Although the video looked like a simple promotion, the observant social media users couldn't help but notice that Smriti was not wearing her engagement ring.

The alteration, which was very slight, got the netizens talking about it all over the place, with a lot of them asking if the filming of the video was done before her engagement. Others were even speculating about the meaning behind the act of not wearing the ring. However, there were also quite a few wise users who advised the rest to maintain their composure, asserting that the video had probably been shot well in advance and was only now being released for promotion.

The discussion intensified after people noticed that Smriti had deleted all her wedding-related posts from social media. Many fans sensed the pain in Smriti's voice in the video and sent their best wishes. They said that Smriti should not feel alone during this difficult time and that people are with her.
