War 2 review
Director: Ayan Mukerji
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani
Rating: ★★
War 2 - featuring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana - is everything the viewers would expect from a high-stakes spy thriller. Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji steps in to make the franchise not just bigger, but also bolder, and to do this it sends our heroes on a wild ride through at least ten countries. From jaw-dropping action sequences to stylish and unrealistic stunts, and exotic backdrops, every aspect has been amped up to eleven. But the movie isn't just about the chase. Amid massive explosions and spy moves is desh bhakti that has been infused into almost every sequence. The film is fast, fiery, and patriotic, but not flawless.
War 2 Review: What is the plot?
Hrithik Roshan plays Kabir, an ex-RAW agent. Right from the opening sequence, you are convinced that he brings with him an interesting mix of charm, charm, precision, and physicality on the big screen. Kabir has been hired by Kali, which operates as an international terrorist syndicate. However, nobody is familiar with his secret mission - that of demolishing Kali. Within minutes we are introduced to Wing Commander Kavya Luthra, played by Kiara Advani who is honoured for carrying out an evacuation operation successfully. During this ceremony, her father, Colonel Karan Luthra (Ashutosh Rana), gets a call which has Kali plotting his killing. Kabir is ordered by Kali to kill Karan, which he does. Following Colonel Karan Luthra's death, Anil Kapoor is appointed as the new War Chief. To take on Kali, he decides to rope in a ferocious officer Vikram, which is played by Jr NTR. What follows next is a series of high-octane chase sequences between Kabir and Vikram, and both of them making efforts to ensure Kali’s next mission isn't successful. What happens next? You must watch the film to know.
War 2 Review: How convincing are Hrithik and Jr NTR as Kabir and Raghu?
Hrithik Roshan's fans have a valid reason to feel excited as he plays Kabir in War 2. In the sequel, he and this time he’s unstoppable and raw. Such is his impact that he makes action look like a walk in the park. Yes, it appears that easy yet impactful. Whether he is throwing punches at the baddies mid-air atop a plane or pulling off stunts on a speeding train or involved in a high-speed car chase, he is always in control and sharp. Jr NTR is flawless as Raghu. He is fierce and happy to adhere to the idea 'Raghu first' as opposed to Kabir's 'India first'. His love and hatred towards Kabir looks real. And that wink at Kabir? Well, that remains unforgettable. His dialogue 'You will be surprised to know what a man can do when his ego is hurt' captures the essence of his character Raghu. In War 2, NTR had one job - to bring his A-game. And we are happy that he didn't let his fans down. Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana and Anil Kapoor too play their parts well.
War 2 Review: Should it be watched?
If you prefer movies that are high on action and stylish stunts and thrill, War 2 is the right option. And if you are a Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR fan, then too it is unmissable. Ayan Mukerji's war 2 is a glossy (with shoddy VFX), fast-paced ride that will offer fans enough to cheer for - even if it doesn’t look completely convincing. War 2 as a one-time watch? Okay.
