Kerala actress rape case: The survivor of the 2017 Kerala assault case, Bhavana Menon, has spoken out against actor Dileep's acquittal by Kerala's Ernakulam Sessions Court earlier this week. "After years of pain, tears, and emotional struggle, I have come to a painful realisation, 'Not every citizen in this country is treated equally before the law'," said Bhavana in a long Instagram post.

Kerala court acquits actor Dileep
Earlier this week, a Kerala court acquitted actor Dileep and sentenced six others to 20 years in prison for assaulting Bhavana in a moving car as she returned from a film shoot in Thrissur to Kochi. Actor Dileep was accused of plotting and hiring local goons to settle personal grievances. The men captured the attack on camera.
What did Bhavana Menon say?
"To those who still keep saying that Accused No1 was my personal driver, this is completely false!! He was not my driver, not my employee, and not someone I knew. He was a random person who happened to be assigned as a driver for a movie I worked on 2016," she added.
She reportedly only met him once or twice before the sexual assault. Further, Bhavana stated that she anticipated that Dileep, the purported mastermind, would receive a clean chit.
Higher Court transfer plea refused
"This verdict may surprise many people, but it did not surprise me. As early as 2020, I began to feel that something was not right. Every the prosecution noticed changes in the way case was being handled," she said. She said that her requests to transfer the case to a higher court, such as India's Apex court, due to trust issues, were turned down.
