Shakti-Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki

Shakti-Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki is the first show in the history of Indian television to bring to fore the plight of transgenders. Produced by Rashmi Sharma Telefilms Limited, the show premiered in June 2016 and has been receiving accolades for its sensitive and realistic portrayal of the journey of a eunuch named Soumya (played by Rubina Dilaik) who is kept away from the world by her mother, Nimmi , throughout her childhood. Her father, Maninder, makes several attempts to kill her but Nimmi somehow manages to save her every time. One day Harman (Vivian Dsena) breaks into Soumya's house and mistakenly kidnaps her. Realising that he has kidnapped the wrong person, he releases her the next day but all the villagers accuse her of sleeping with Harman. To avoid insult to both the families, Harman's father Harak Singh gets them married without taking her parents’ consent. Soumya comes to know about her reality some days after her marriage. She tries to attempt suicide but Harman saves her. When Harman tries to get romantic with her, she reveals that she is a eunuch. Nimmi begs Harman not to reveal Soumya's secret. But, his mother Preeto some how finds out her reality. Preeto throws her out of her house and hands her over to the head of eunuchs. Soumya now lives in their society, with a hope that someday her family will come and take her back. Her husband Harman and sister Surbhi are finding her while his mother Preeto is conspiring against Soumya to send her to Bangkok. The show explores the difficulties faced by the third gender in our nation through the eyes of Soumya, the protagonist. The show airs from Monday to Thursday on Colors at 8:00 pm.
