S. S. Rajamouli’s Varanasi has created a lot of buzz among the fans and audience. The upcoming film, which marks the comeback of Priyanka Chopra in Hindi cinema, is currently undergoing a disagreement related to the ownership of the title rights of the film. The controversy surrounds the legal ownership of the title of the film. Following the revelation of the Priyanka Chopra starrer’s title as Varanasi, it was revealed that the title is currently owned by Rama Bramha Hanuma Creations, a company led by CH Subba Reddy. As per the Telugu Film Producer's Council's registration documents, the name Vaaranasi was registered by the company a few years ago.
More about the title dispute
The name has been legally owned by Rama Bramha Hanuma Creations since 2023. The said production house had even renewed the title ownership from June 24, 2025, to July 23, 2026. Subba’s production company had registered the name as Vaaranasi. S. S. Rajamouli, along with his team, has used the same title, just under a different name. The said title was revealed during the grand trailer and title release event that took place at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad on November 15, 2025.

Did Subba Reddy file a complaint?
It is not clear yet if a complaint has been registered against Rajamouli and team by Subba Reddy over the use of the title. Only time will tell if Rajamouli and his producer-son, SS Karthikeya, will be holding a meeting with Subba Reddy and his team to negotiate the matter, or if it will be taken up legally. In the case that Subba Reddy and his team decide to file a case, a film body will be expected to investigate the case and settle the dispute.
