Controversy around the movie
Shortly after the teaser was released on 26 January 2025, director Mohan G. Kshatriyan took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to assert that the film depicts Brahmins negatively, which led to various criticisms on social media for endorsing underage drinking and misrepresenting a particular community. The criticisms were primarily aimed at the film's producers, Vetrimaaran and Anurag Kashyap, escalating into personal attacks and trolling towards Pa. Ranjith, along with the families of Vetrimaaran and Vijay Sethupathi. In response to the criticism emerging about the media, Varsha expressed that her film does not aim at a specific group and mentioned that she can only create films that are relatable, recognisable, and personal to her. Although the film received a 'U/A' certification from the Central Board of Film Certification, the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court ordered the Central government to take down the teaser from social media, following claims that the teaser portrays children inappropriately. The U/A certificate was granted after several profanities were silenced and some intimate visuals, roughly 20%, were removed from the film's final duration of 112 minutes.
