Vijay Deverakonda hoped for a big Bollywood debut with Liger, directed by Puri Jagannadh, but the film terrible tanked at the box office and incurred huge losses to the makers. The movie was brutally criticised by the film critics and audience alike and deemed as a big failure. Now, rumours are doing the rounds of the industry that Rocking Star Yash, who delivered a blockbuster with KGF 2, had warned Vijay about Liger.
According to Mirchi 9, director Puri Jagannadh had pitched Liger's story to Yash and tried several tricks to bring him onboard. However, Yash wasn't really impressed with it and decided to let it pass. After this, Vijay was finally zeroed in for the lead role.

The rumours also suggest that Yash had warned Vijay since he wasn't really convinced with the storyline of Liger. He felt that the story was not up to the mark and the audience might not connect with it.
Moreover, it is also being said that while Puri was shooting for Liger, he again approached Yash and pitched him the idea of his upcoming film Jana Gana Mana. The director reportedly narrated some powerful scenes of the film to Yash in order to convince him but yet again, Yash politely refused his offer.
After Yash's refusal, Puri again pitched the story of Jana Gana Mana to Vijay and the latter again gave his nod to the film, while looking at Liger's pre-release biz figures. But the failure of Liger came as a wake-up call for the makers and they decided not to go ahead with the project.
When the portal contacted Vijay's team for confirmation, they responded saying that these are just rumours and nothing more than another gossip.
Meanwhile, Puri Jagannadh has been mired in controversy over the compensation issues pertaining to the distributors. The director has also filed a police complaint over receiving death threats.
