Popular Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh recently opened up about his Met Gala debut and how he managed to sneak in his sword. The singer-turned-actor revealed that it was due to Shakira’s outfit that he got the chance to sneak in his Kirpan.
Known for delivering iconic pop songs and even more iconic films like Phillauri and Carry On Jatta, actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh recently appeared on the YouTube channel of the BBC Asian Network. Diljit was present at the media interaction with his upcoming film Sardar Ji 3’s co-star Neeru Bajwa to promote the film, where he opened up about a lot of instances from his personal and professional life.

The popular star, while talking about his debut at the Met Gala 2025, visibly got emotional and stated that his 'kirpan' wasn’t meant to be taken inside the main event. The 'Do You Know' singer further revealed that he had only planned on getting pictures with his 'Kirpan' in his iconic outfit backstage.
However, a sudden upsurge of the crowd created a lot of rush, which prompted him to take the 'kirpan' with him inside the main event. Diljit, who was then sitting in the vanity van, revealed that security even asked him to hand over the sword to someone else before he got to the Blue Carpet. He then decided to sneak in the ‘kirpan’ as his outfit would look incomplete without the sword and might not strike well.
Diljit said, “Mere aage thi Shakira, Shakira ki dress mein jo tha woh bohot saara metal laga hua tha, aur koi bhi baaki uske peeche nahi jaa raha tha because she’s such a big name.” Diljit further revealed that when the popular singer got herself scanned via metal detector, all the alarms started ringing. Diljit admitted to just walking behind Shakira and entering the venue with his kirpan that was hidden in his cape.
