Rajkummar Rao, who was last seen in the movie Bhool Chuk Maaf, recently hit headlines due to his alleged court case revolving around movie Behen Hogi Teri.
Rajkummar Rao is one of the prominent names in the film industry. He has come a long way in films as he is considered to be one of the most versatile stars of Bollywood. He has featured in several critically-acclaimed movies like Trapped, Aligarh, City Lights, Omerta, Shahid and many more. His recent releases like Stree 2 and Bhool Chuk Maaf have also become a major commercial hits.
However, Rajkummar Rao is currently in news because of a court case. The actor's name was involved in an FIR registered against the makers of the movie - Behen Hogi Teri. It was due to a controversial poster of the movie that called for trouble.
In 2017, Rajkummar Rao and Shruti Haasan's movie Behen Hogi Teri released. A poster featuring Rajkummar Rao in Lord Shiva's get-up left several furious. The poster showed him dressed as Lord Shiva seated in a silver motorbike.
Later, a case was filed against Rajkummar Rao, Shruti Haasan, director and producers of the movie for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments. Reportedly, an FIR was registered under Section 295A (act done with the intention of inciting religious sentiments), Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and Section 67 of the IT Act. A warrant was then issued against those named in the case.
Following the same, actor Rajkummar Rao surrendered before Jalandhar court on July 28. After presenting himself in front of the court, the actor was granted conditional bail.
As per a report in Hindustan Times, advocate Darshan Dayal revealed the details of the case and mentioned that Shruti Haasan was acquitted as the court found her to be innocent. About Rajkummar Rao, the advocate said, 'The challan was presented in the court in the absence of the actor. Since the address in the summons was in Delhi, he was not informed about appearing in the court. Actually, the actor is living in Mumbai.'
The report further states that in the petition, it was mentioned that Rajkummar Rao merely played a film character and it was only for artistic presentation. It was stated that there was no intention to hurt the religious sentiments of anyone.
Reportedly, the actor argued in court that Behen Hogi Teri was granted a certificate by CBFC, indicating that the content was not objectionable. The advocate also mentioned about actor's freedom of expression.
