Dr Subhash Chandra turns 75: Salim Merchant HAILS his legacy, wishes him good health

Dr Subhash Chandra - the man everyone calls the father of Indian television - turned 75 on November 30, and it’s a big moment for the industry. After all, he’s the one who launched Zee TV, India’s very first private satellite channel, and completely changed how the country consumed entertainment. From a young entrepreneur to a full-blown media legend, his journey is the kind of story people still look up to. Among the many people wishing him well was music maestro Salim Merchant, who had nothing but love and respect for Dr Chandra on his special day. Salim talked about how Dr Chandra’s vision reshaped Indian entertainment and opened up massive opportunities for singers, musicians, writers, actors - basically everyone in the creative space. He even called his contributions unmatched and transformative, which pretty much sums up the impact Zee had back in the ’90s.

Salim also sent his warm wishes for Dr Chandra’s health and long life, saying that his influence on the industry is still as strong as ever. He pointed out that visionaries like Dr Subhash Chandra don’t come around often — people who don’t just build companies but actually shift culture.
