The Delhi High Court has slammed Red Chillies Entertainment and Netflix’s satirical drama The Ba***ds of Bollywood for what it described as the bias against former NCB official Sameer Wankhede. While hearing Sameer Wankhede's plea alleging that the show defames him, the court acknowledged that the depiction was satire but maintained that it was biased. Sameer Wankhede has sued Red Chillies and Netflix, and show’s creator, filmmaker and star Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan, for defamation. In 2021, Aryan Khan was arrested by Sameer Wankhede. At that time, Sameer Wankhede was with the Narcotics Control Bureau. However, all charges against Aryan Khan were dropped.
On behalf for Red Chillies, Senior Advocate Kaul defended the show’s satire. “I am entitled to do this. You are putting a gun to my head in the plaint. Of course, I can say that I am inspired by characters....Every producer, paparazzi can appear tomorrow, (saying) my face resembles," he was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times. The advocate also explained how cartoonist RK Laxman could even take a satirical dig at the Prime Minister. “That is what we have been proud of in our country. RK Laxman's character is an example who ridiculed the Prime Minister," he added. At this, the court stated that there was never any bias in RK Laxman’s work like there was in The Ba***ds of Bollywood, given the history shared between Aryan and Sameer Wankhede.

What did Ashish Kumar say?
Actor Ashish Kumar had played a plain-clothed narcotics officer in Aryan Khan’s Netflix series The Bads of Bollywood. Many felt that the character he essayed resembled former NCB officer Sameer Wankhede. This speculation soon turned into a controversy with Sameer Wankhede filing a defamation suit against Aryan Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Netflix. Sameer Wankhede alleged that the show harmed his reputation. The Delhi High Court, however, had earlier dismissed his petition as "not maintainable."
