GYAN MUKHERJEE

Biography : Gyan Mukherjee was an Indian film director and screenwriter who worked in Hindi cinema. He was born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, on September 30, 1909. Mukherjee started his career with New Theatres in Calcutta (now Kolkata), and subsequently joined Bombay Talkies as a supervising technician. He soon became a trendsetter of "formula film" starting with his first directorial venture Geeta (1940) based on the theme, "Crime-doesn't-pay", and "Boy meets girl" was used in Jhoola (1941). Mukherjee's most famous film is Kismet (1943), which is considered one of the greatest Hindi films of all time. The film was a huge commercial success and won several awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Film. Mukherjee also directed other successful films such as Sangram (1950), Parasmani (1953), and Sardar (1955). Mukherjee died on November 13, 1956, in Calcutta, at the age of 47. He is considered one of the pioneers of Hindi cinema and his films are still enjoyed by audiences today. Mukherjee's films were known for their social commentary and their realistic portrayal of Indian society. He was also a master of the masala film, which is a genre of Hindi film that combines action, romance, comedy, and drama. Mukherjee's films were hugely popular with audiences and they helped to shape the Hindi film industry.
