Hariharan Anantha Subramani is an Indian playback, bhajan, and ghazal singer who sings mostly in Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu. In addition, he has performed over 15,000 renowned songs in ten languages, including Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Sinhala, Bhojpuri, Odia, Bengali, Sanskrit, Gujarati, and English. He is a well-known ghazal singer and one of the forefathers of Indian fusion music. Hariharan was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on 3 April 1955. He is the son of renowned Carnatic vocalists, Shrimati Alamelu and the late H.A.S. Mani. He inherited his parents' virtuoso musical talents and began learning Carnatic music from a young age. In his teens, he developed a passion for ghazals and started training in Hindustani music with Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. Hariharan made his playback singing debut in 1978 with the song "Ajeeb Saaneha Mujh Par Guzar Gaya Yaaron" for the film Gaman. He went on to sing for over 1,000 films in a career spanning over four decades. He has won numerous awards, including two National Film Awards, the Padma Shri, and the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer – Malayalam. Hariharan is a versatile singer who is equally at home in classical, folk, ghazal, and fusion music. He is known for his soulful voice and his ability to connect with the listener.
