HEMANT CHAUHAN

Biography : Hemant Chauhan is an Indian singer and writer associated with Gujarati literature and music. He was born on 7 November 1955 in Kundni village in Rajkot district of Gujarat. He specializes in bhajans, religious and garba songs, and other folk genres. Chauhan's interest in devotional music developed since he was a child. His father and grandfather were both religious singers. While studying in college, he finally joined a music institute to learn formally. Chauhan's first album, “Dasi Jivan Na Bhajano”, was released in 1978. Since then, he has released over 5000 bhajans and devotional songs. He has also written several books on music and spirituality. Chauhan is frequently referred to as the Bhajan King of Gujarati Music, and is also considered to be one of the best singers of Sugam Sangeet. He has a huge fan base and following all over the world including India (mainly in Gujarat), United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States and East Africa. His fan base outside India is made up of people of Gujarati heritage. In 2012, Chauhan was awarded the Akademi Ratna Award for his contributions to Gujarat's traditional folk music. In 2023, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. Chauhan is a living legend in the world of Gujarati music. His songs are full of love, devotion, and spirituality. He is a true ambassador of Gujarati culture and heritage.
