K. S. Chithra is a playback singer and Carnatic musician from India. She has recorded over 25,000 songs in various Indian languages, as well as foreign languages such as Malay, Latin, Arabic, Sinhalese, English and French. Few of her famous songs are 'Kehna Hi Kya' and 'Yeh Haseen Vadiyan'. Chithra was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, on July 27, 1963. She began her musical training at a young age under her father, Krishnan Nair, who was a singer and composer. She continued her studies at the University of Kerala, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and a Master of Arts in Music. Chithra made her playback singing debut in 1979 with the Malayalam film, "Apoorva Sangeetham." She went on to sing in films in all the major South Indian languages, as well as Hindi. She has won numerous awards for her singing, including six National Film Awards, nine Filmfare Awards South, and 36 state film awards. She was awarded India's third highest civilian honor, the Padma Bhushan, in 2021. Chithra is a versatile singer who is equally adept at singing classical, folk, and pop music. She is known for her clear, sweet voice and her ability to emote through her songs.
