BISWA KALYAN RATH

Biography : Biswa Kalyan Rath is an Indian stand-up comedian, writer, and YouTuber. He came into prominence through the YouTube comedy series, Pretentious Movie Reviews with fellow comedian Kanan Gill. He played a supporting role in the 2016 Netflix sex comedy film Brahman Naman. He created the 2017 Amazon Prime Video's series Laakhon Mein Ek. Rath was born in Rourkela, Odisha, India in 1989. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in Biotechnology in 2012. After graduating, he worked in graphic design, advertising, and software. In 2013, he met Kanan Gill at an open mic event in Bangalore and they decided to start doing comedy together. Rath and Gill's YouTube series, Pretentious Movie Reviews, quickly went viral. In the series, they review critically panned Bollywood films. They chose Bollywood movies because they are so embedded in Indian pop culture. In 2017, Rath created the Amazon Prime Video series Laakhon Mein Ek. The series is a comedy-drama about the Indian dream and the struggles of ordinary people to achieve it. Rath also starred in the series. Rath has also released three stand-up comedy specials: Biswa Mast Aadmi (2017), Sushi (2019), and Mood Kharaab (2022). He has also judged the comedy reality show Comicstaan.
