PADMA RANI

Biography : Padmarani, born on January 25, 1937, was an Indian actress who performed in Gujarati plays, Gujarati films, and Hindi films. She was born in Pune, Maharashtra, to a Maharashtrian family. She started her acting career in Gujarati theatre in the early 1950s. She made her Gujarati film debut in 1961 with the film Narsaiyyani Hundi. She went on to act in over 200 Gujarati films, including Kalapi (1966), Janamtip (1969), Patli Parmar (1978), Gangasati (1979) and Sagaai (1980). She also acted in several Hindi films, including Parivar (1968), Veer Ghatotkach (1970), Jai Santoshi Maa (1975), Dil (1990), Zaalim (1994), Paheli (2005) and Guru (2007). Padmarani was a versatile actress who could play a variety of roles. She was known for her strong performances in both Gujarati and Hindi films. She was also a successful theatre actress and had a long career in Gujarati theatre. She was awarded the Padma Shri in 2003 for her contributions to Indian cinema. Padmarani died on her 79th birthday on 25 January 2016 in Mumbai. She was survived by her daughter, Daisy Irani, who is also an actress.
