Author and socialite Bina Ramani, who is significantly close to the Kapoor family, recently shared some instances of difficulties. She revealed how this actor’s film had just flopped, and his father was struggling with cancer.
She also added that the actor used to avoid unimportant expenses, as he was broke. She shared that his father’s cancer made him avoid expenses.
She revealed that the actor used to sleep on a mattress at her place. She also said that he used to travel by bus, avoiding taking private transportation.
That actor was none other than Raj Kapoor. She added, “Some money that the Hindujas had from Sangam, they owed him; they didn’t pay him completely. That let him down very badly at this particular time, for a good six weeks or so.”
Bina also revealed a particularly vulnerable moment that she witnessed Raj Kapoor in. She said that Raj was in constant mental stress due to his father’s deteriorating health. Bina revealed that on one particular instance, she saw him venting out his frustration and anger. She said, “At night, he was yelling, and I came out to see what happened. He was in distress most of the time after getting bad news from the hospital. He was fed up; his father wasn’t getting better, and that too added up.”
Bina also told about a moment where she saw Raj questioning faith and religion. He had a picture of Jesus in his hands. “So, he had Jesus’ picture in his hand and was completely abusing him, in Hindi and English. I asked him, and he said that ‘I have loved him and have given my full love to him; he has returned his love to me. How dare he let me down?’ He had the thinking that if you don’t talk to your God, no one will listen to you.”
Ramani revealed that even though Raj Kapoor was a Hindu, he was liberal when it came to religion. She revealed, “He was a Hindu, but he believed in Islam as well. He had Sai Baba’s picture, a little Ganesh ji, and a photograph of Jesus in a frame.”
