Jemima Goldsmith, the producer and socialite who was once married to Pakistan's former Prime Minister Imran Khan, is back in the spotlight after accusing X of "covert throttling."
Jemima Goldsmith, commonly referred to as Jemima Khan, 50, has made headlines for directly appealing to Elon Musk, the owner of the social media platform X. She claimed that her posts showcasing what she termed as barbaric and undignified detention conditions endured by her ex-husband, Pakistan’s imprisoned former prime minister Imran Khan, were being censored on the platform.
“X was our only independent platform to highlight this injustice,” she wrote. Jemima stated that posts discussing Khan’s imprisonment conditions, isolation, and their sons’ ability to see their father were consistently restricted by the algorithm. She claims that the Pakistani government has prioritized online enforcement against criticism from Imran Khan’s close associates, and X was subtly adhering just enough to maintain its presence in the nation. She mentioned that Grok had examined her analytics and determined that her account was undergoing what she referred to as “covert throttling.” The episode has once more highlighted Jemima, a person who has long navigated British high society, media, philanthropy, and Pakistani politics.
Jemima Marcelle Goldsmith was born on 30 January 1974 and is the daughter of billionaire financier Sir James Goldsmith and socialite Lady Annabel Vane Tempest Stewart. She was raised in affluence and influence, with her two younger siblings, politician Zac Goldsmith and financier Ben Goldsmith.
Throughout the years, she has established her unique identity as a television writer and producer, creating Instinct Productions, and has been a UNICEF UK ambassador for over ten years.
The former captain of the Pakistan cricket team, over twenty years older than her, allegedly encountered her at a dinner gathering, and their romance swiftly intrigued the public. Jemima wed Imran Khan in 1995 at the age of 21. Their marriage was one of the most discussed social events of the year. On 20 June 1995, a civil ceremony took place at the Richmond register office in London, following a previous Islamic nikah in Paris, after which Jemima embraced Islam.
She was a dear friend of the late Princess Diana and had traveled to Pakistan to see Jemima on two occasions.
The couple eventually moved to Pakistan and welcomed two sons, Suleiman and Qasim. She currently identifies as Jemima Khan Goldsmith, stating that the name combination signifies her personal and cultural commitment to the discussions she remains involved in, with one name grounded in Jewish heritage and the other in Islam.
