Payal was born in 2000 in Chhattisgarh, India. She started her gaming career on YouTube in 2019 and quickly gained popularity playing games like GTA V, PUBG, and BGMI. She is also associated with S8UL Esports, a well-known Indian gaming organization.
A purported private video of Payal Dhare went viral on social media. Various claims were made about the video, and it was linked to her name, causing concern among her followers. Following this, fans and several gaming websites began investigating the authenticity of the video.
The investigation revealed that the video was not real, but had been created using deepfake technology. Payal Dhare has publicly commented on the controversy and clarified her position.
In her words, I never expected to have to speak publicly about something so personal and distressing. Over the past few days, content has been circulated that falsely my name and image with a video currently being shared on digital platforms. I want to state this clearly and without ambiguity: the individual depicted in that video is not me and it has no connection to my life, my choices and my identity.
Importantly, for all those who are looking for and passing the link to this video for entertainment or knowledge, Indian legislation is very severe about the matter. According to reports, engaging in the dissemination, sharing, or even just forwarding of any kind of online such material may lead the offender to prison for as long as three years and also a fine which could be as high as 5 lakh rupees.
In case the video portrays explicitness, then the punishment is doubled to a prison term of five years, along with a monetary penalty of Rs. 10 lakhs. Furthermore, harsher steps can be undertaken under Secs. 292, 293, and 354C (voyeurism or invasiveness of privacy) of the Indian Penal Code.
