After over a decade, the Oscar-winning filmmaker James Cameron returned with the much-anticipated second instalment of his most talked about film Avatar. His epic sci-fi adventure saga Avatar: The Way of Water or Avatar 2, had hit theatres on December 16, 2022. The movie featured an ensemble cast featuring Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore and Vin Diesel in key roles. A sequel to James Cameron's Avatar, this film was reportedly made on the massive budget of $237 million. For the unversed, the film revolved around the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his Na'vi wife Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and their kids. They live a peaceful life, which is soon impacted when humans emerge again on the alien planet. Colonel Miles Quaritch (played by Stephen Lang), who was presumed dead in Avatar, returns to take revenge from Sully and Neytiri.

Avatar 2 box office collection in India
In India, James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water emerged as the highest Hollywood grosser. The film managed to mint over Rs 454 crore. With this collection, it was successful in crossing Marvel’s Avengers Endgame Box office of Rs 438 crore. Worldwide, it managed to earn over Rs 14060 crore. Besides breaking several Box Office records, the film was also a major box office success internationally. It earned over $2.320 billion worldwide, and emerged as the the highest-grossing film of 2022. It also emerged as the highest-grossing film since the COVID-19 pandemic, and the third-highest grosser of all time. Such was the impact of Avatar: The Way of Water that it also overtook Titanic as the third highest grosser of all time. For the unversed, Titanic earned $2.2428 billion at the worldwide box office.
